Godzilla battled the Super X2 at sea before arriving at Lake Ashi, where he fought and defeated the plant monster Biollante who was created from his cells. Five years later, Godzilla was released from his volcanic prison by explosives following a botched ransoming by the terrorist group Bio-Major.
